How to
Treat Your Blog
Like a
Book
Treat your blog like a book!
What I mean by this is that you should write posts as if you’re writing a book. People write books to get read. They write books to tell a story. They write to grasp the reader’s attention and give them something.
That’s how you should think when you write blog posts. You should write them as if you’re adding to a book.
If you treat your blog like a book, you can expect a deeper readership than you’d generally get.
But there are some essential steps to consider when you treat your blog like a book. And we’re going to talk about those steps now.
Treat your blog like a book with sentence auditing
Audit every sentence you write.
Every sentence has to matter.
Too many bloggers fill their articles with fluff. They do it to add fillers to increase word count. It’s often done in an attempt to do better with SEO. More extensive articles tend to look better.
The problem is if there are sentences that are not worth anything. And those sentences will turn people off, and they’re quitting reading your blog after that point.
Then you accomplish nothing.
Before you publish, read each sentence you’ve written in. Then ask yourself if the sentence is worth keeping. How does it add to the blog? How will it keep a reader reading?
Treat your blog like a book with a killer headline
Your headlines need to be the best they can be.
This is where you should learn the basics of copywriting. I’ve also created guides about a few styles, such as the PAS style and the AIDA style.
A killer headline will grab the reader’s attention and draw them to the rest of the post.
That’s what you want!
You want an attention-grabbing headline. Clickbait is fine until it’s a lie, but if you can make it work and still give the reader what it promises, then it’s acceptable using it.
But if it doesn’t deliver – you only paint a terrible picture of yourself as someone who can’t be trusted.
Make sure your headline counts. And make sure all sub-headings throughout the post count, too.
Treat your blog like a book by telling a story with it
Everyone loves a good story.
That’s what makes books popular—the story. And if the story isn’t good enough, no one will continue reading the book.
The same concept applies to blogs. If you want to treat your blog like a book, it must tell a story.
Each post needs to continue a story somehow, too!
My blog tells you a story on content creation and digital marketing. Each post is helping you make your content and marketing efforts better. That is the story I’m trying to tell you.
When you tell a story, you need to get personal. Write as if you’re talking to a person directly. And mention your own experience in the story, especially if you can relate to the reader someday.
The best kind of writer can tell a story with their creations.
You can treat your blog like a book and effectively get more readers. Everyone loves a good book. Everyone loves a good blog, too. The tactics above will help you create better blog posts and get more readers. If you’ve enjoyed my blog, follow me on Twitter for more blogging tips.
