How to Drive Traffic to Your Blog
If you drive traffic to your blog, you have a better chance of growing its reader base and making more money.
It’s easy for us to start a blog, publish posts, and repeat, right? What’s sometimes confusing is promoting our blogs and driving more traffic to them and that’s a normal problem among bloggers. You do have to work on your promotion tactics if you want to drive traffic to a blog.
In this guide, I’ll show you four of the best methods of driving traffic to your blog. They’re all free, too.
Why Drive Traffic to Your Blog?
There are many reasons and benefits to why you would want to drive traffic to your blog.
The main reason is to get more readers – the more people that visit your blog, the more likely they will convert to loyal readers and engage in the comments. Another reason is to grow your ability to make more money because the more readers you have, the better chance you’ll earn more profit with your blog’s monetization methods. Another great benefit is to build a brand and show yourself as an authority in your niche.
With these benefits, you should do everything you can to drive more traffic to your blog, and I’ll show you how to do that below.
Drive Traffic to Your Blog with Social Media
Social media is one of the best ways to drive traffic to a blog because most of your audience and readers are likely using it these days.
The first thing you should do is join a few platforms where your niche audience is using the most based on your own initial research. After that, you should create a bunch of content that you can upload to the platform and then schedule the content to post at least once a day. Then, you should start following people in your niche and engaging with them as much as you can.
Social media algorithms promote pages that keep people on the platforms.
Most bloggers go wrong with social media because they just post promotional posts. The algorithm will work against you for doing that because it’s trying to keep its users on the platform in order to see their ads and make money. So, it’s important to post more native content and work on building a community and less promotional content because they will find your blog once you build a community of loyal followers.
Social media will only work when you put effort into it, but if you skip it, you’ll likely miss out on major opportunities to drive traffic to your blog.
Drive Traffic to Your Blog with SEO
SEO is another effective way to drive traffic to your blog, and bloggers have been using it for decades, too.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and it can simply be defined as optimizing your content to rank better on search engines like Google, Bing, and others. In most cases, a user will only use page one of a search engine result to get what they need, so SEO is about getting your content on page one based on the user’s search intent. SEO is also about researching keywords and placing the target keyword in your content.
First, let’s get into how you should research keywords.
For this blog post, I chose Google Search to find a keyword. I typed in a topic I wanted to cover on Google Search and then went to the People Also Ask section to find the keyword based on what users are searching for. I then used an SEO Tool to ensure my keyword had low competition but higher search volume before using it.
Now, let’s cover the parts of your post where you should insert your keyword for SEO.
You’ll want the keyword in your title, H1 header, at least one H2 header, and in the URL slug of your blog post. You’ll also want to put your keyword in the ALT tags of at least one to two images you use on your blog post. Finally, put the keyword in the first sentence of your post and then a few more times throughout the content as long as it makes sense to put it in there.
Do this every time you publish a new blog post, and it will definitely help drive traffic to a blog that you’re working on.
Drive Traffic to Your Blog with Other Blogs
You should definitely be using other blogs to help drive traffic to your blog through comments and collaborations.
The comments method is quite simple. Find other blogs that are actively being posted on and commented on within your niche. Leave engaging and valuable comments on the blogs, put your blog link in the URL field if applicable, and become well known as an active and engaging contributor to those related blogs.
Now, let’s move on to collaborating with other bloggers who share the same or a relatable niche.
Collaborate with other bloggers in the form of guest blogging. This is when you write an awesome, high-quality blog post for another blog. In return, they let you link to your own blog in order to help drive traffic to a blog of your choice. Try to do this at least once a month if possible because it can be a very effective way to get more readers on your blog.
Be sure to reply to every comment made on your own blog and engage with readers to keep them coming back for more.
Drive Traffic to Your Blog with YouTube
Video is one of the growing hot topics in blog promotion these days, and you should definitely use it to drive traffic to a blog.
YouTube is an amazing way to drive traffic to your blog. Video is a big trend, and it will only grow in time because people are addicted to watching it. You should also note how much better vertical short-form video content is doing.
Create a YouTube Account for your blog and turn your written content into video content.
Create long-form videos about extra tips to share on your blog post. Create short-form videos for tips and instructions that don’t take a lot of time to do. Utilize Community Posts, podcasts, and the Live feature to drive even more readers to your blog.
Like social media, YouTube works because you can scale your activity and be as active on the platform as possible.
Don’t Do This!
Don’t Spam!
Don’t spam your blog content in order to get more traffic to your blog. Spam will hurt your ranking, and it could even get you banned from search engines and your hosting service. Spamming makes you look bad and will give you a terrible reputation.
Don’t be a spammer when promoting your content to drive traffic to a blog that you’re trying to make a success.
