Before You Accept Failure
Before you accept failure with your online start-up that’s not working the way you wanted it to, think about something for a moment.
It’s 2023.
Rewind to 1993. I was 8 years old. I was playing around with our all-in-one computer with those floppy discs. I found a game where you try to match images up. You would win plants (all game graphics) and stuff like that.
Back then, if my mom or dad wanted to start a business, they’d need to create some physical product or service. This would require money for materials or travel pending the product or service.
Then they would need to start a business for it and get insurance. Back in 1993, it wasn’t that cheap to do that in Illinois.
Then they would need a storefront. We lived in a small town with limited commercial property. They would have to drive twenty minutes to get to any sort of commercial building.
Rewind to the era of my grandparent’s early adulthood. That was the Depression. There was barely any money to start your own business. Most able men were sent to war. Many didn’t return. The women had to work one or two jobs to support the children.
Now let’s fast-forward to 2023.
What do you need to start a business?
You need an internet connection. Most of us have that in our pockets.
You need a computer. We got that in our pocket too.
You need a website. That’s less than $150 a year. You could skip that and do it for free with Sub Stack, online store platforms, WordPress, and Patreon.
Products? You can create them with that computer in your pocket or write. It’s the age of digital products and services.
That’s how easy it is to start a business or brand in 2023.
In 1993 or 1943, failing at your start-up usually meant going into debt and being poor.
Failing today means you get a job or start something new because it’s that easy compared to 1993 and 1943.
Don’t accept failure. You live in an era where you don’t need to fail anymore.
I was inspired to write this article based on a Tweet by my friend, Tim Stoddart. Check out his great website and newsletter to learn how to start your own business online without accepting failure.
