X (formerly known as Twitter) can bring your blog plenty of new and returning readers, help you gain mailing list subscribers, and even allow you to make more money with the products and services you sell from your blog.
But it’s more than just posting a link to your blog posts on X. You have to integrate a strategy into the techniques you use to market your content on X.
In this guide, I’ll show you effective and modern ways to be successful at blog marketing on X in 2024 and beyond.
What is Blog Marketing on X?
Blog marketing on X can be defined in three core functions: Engagement, Brand Establishment, and Brand Broadcasting.
Engagement is a core function of blog marketing on X because it is how other people within your niche or industry will be able to find you. You can’t just create a profile and watch new readers flow in. You have to get on other profiles related to your niche, engage with them, and build a strong relationship with these people and companies.
Brand Establishment is creating a profile page and being active with it in your voice and theme. Use a logo and profile header that represents you in your niche. Use the colors and theme you use on your blog. Make sure that when people find you on X, they know you from other platforms, too.
Brand Broadcasting is where you post content on X. This is where you broadcast information related to your brand and niche. In order to be successful at blog marketing on X, you’ll need to actively contribute high-quality content on a daily basis.
Utilizing these core features while marketing your blog on X will ensure that you can successfully drive traffic to your content from the social media giant.
Search Engine Optimization on X
SEO or Search Engine Optimization is one of the main strategies when doing blog marketing on X. Social media are basically search engines, and SEO can help you rank on them.
There are some important steps to take when attempting to master your X SEO position.
You should choose the right username for your account. If you haven’t made an X account yet, this will be easier. If you already have an account and it isn’t conforming, you might just have to skip a portion of this. Your username should reflect your blog name. My username is @shawngossman, which is my blog’s name. Your name on your profile should also reflect your blog name. Mine is Shawn Gossman, which, again, is my blog name.
You want to create a bio that is keyword-rich and relevant to your blog and brand. This is the About section on your profile. In the bio, you also want to make sure you define what you provide with your blog, product, or services. Use eye-catching sentences to lure readers in.
Include your blog website in the URL section of your profile. Use a start page if you want multiple links promoted. It’s best to make sure the page or site is as mobile-friendly as possible.
The only time you’d need to add a location is when your niche is local; otherwise, if you serve a global audience, you might as well leave your location field blank.
Make sure you use a logo and header/banner image that reflects your brand and the niche that you write about. These images should be high-quality and visually appealing. You want them to hook people in from the start.
Blog marketing on X gets easier when you have a verified account. This means you upgrade to Premium or Premium+ and get the blue verified icon next to your username. This does cost money, but it also opens your profile up to more views and features worth paying for.
Try to research the keywords you’re using on your X posts. You should use keywords there like you would on your blog. You can use a service like Uber Suggest or SEM Rush to easily conduct keyword research or learn how to research keywords yourself.
Make sure your posts on X are SEO-friendly. Use keywords in them and relevant links. Use relevant hashtags, too.
Don’t go overboard with hashtags. Most of the time, you need to use one or maybe even two. Using too many will make your post look fake and could confuse the algorithm. Make sure keywords are as relevant to your content as possible.
Research your content’s analytics and try to understand the best times to post. Try to post when most people are reading your content.
Create sharable content. The more shares you get, the more engagement you’ll get. Engagement will lead to more blog readers, subscribers, and even customers.
When you publish content on X, try to encourage some kind of interaction. Asking questions is a great way to get engagement on your content.
Blog marketing on X becomes easier when you use all the features the platform offers. The algorithm will notice them and spend more time on your account and content. X wants to keep people on its platform, and if you help it accomplish that goal, it will help you in return.

Set realistic expectations and goals for your strategy on X. Don’t join with the goal of making $100K in the first year. Set a realistic goal that you can actually reach. Unrealistic goals and expectations lead to burnout and failure.
Create core values for your blog and stay aligned with them. You need to create a system that you follow that reflects the core values that you have created for your blog. Then, you need to align your X marketing tactics to reflect those values.
Always follow your competition on X. A lot of blog marketing on X deals with competitor analysis. Your competition will likely be on X. You should look at them every day and note what they’re doing to be successful at their marketing game.
Always look for ways to incorporate follower feedback. Whether you ask your followers directly, send them DMs, or even start a survey – you should be asking followers for feedback. Implement their suggestions as much as possible and you’ll gain great success at blog marketing on X.
Create marketing guidelines and abide by them. Every blogger marketing on X should have a set of marketing guidelines. These guidelines should outline how you can market in alignment with your brand and image. You should follow your guidelines to ensure that you stabilize your blog marketing on X.

Be active on X spaces. Whether you join live spaces or create your own, you should be active in them and engage with people in the space. Be a speaker, ask questions, lead a space, connect and follow participants in the space, and get yourself seen.
Take advantage of X lists. Lists allow you and other users to create curated lists of content and profiles specific to topics. Find lists related to your blogging niche that you can join. You should also create some lists. Be active on the lists and publish high-quality content.
Conduct X polls. Create and participate in polls on X related to your niche. Polls can be set up for voting for 7 days or less. You should use polls to create engaging content on your page and about your niche. Reply to and share polls. These are engagement magnets when it comes to blog marketing on X.
Schedule your content. Stay ahead and stay consistent on X by scheduling your content. Use a service like Buffer to schedule your content to post at another time on a different day. A good practice is keeping content scheduled a week or two in advance. This allows you to consistently post at scale and spend more time on engagement.
Use high-quality visual media on X. People respond better to media than text. Videos and images are more popular than text, especially on mobile devices, which make up the majority of your audience. You should add visually appealing media, videos, and images to your content as long as they’re relevant to your audience and niche.
Create threads on X. At least once a week; you should create a good, sharable thread associated with your niche or industry. If you can create a thread every day like this, you might also try that. Threads can be viral and a success on X. You could even turn your blog post into a thread and link to the full one to do blog marketing on X that way.
Listen to your social media followers. Social listening is when you thoroughly listen to your audience on social media. This is done by researching, watching, and understanding the needs and wants of your followers and potentially followers on X. You really have to dissect their activity and engagement behaviors on X to fully understand them.
Spend some money on an ad. In most cases, you should only purchase ads if you plan to profit more than what you spent on the ad. But some bloggers are doing low-risk ad buying for more potential readers, email subscribers, and even engagement on X. Just remember that unless you profit from the ad, you might not ever get that money back.
Only reshare content when it matters. Too many reshares occur these days on content that shouldn’t have been reshared in the first place. You should only reshare content that your audience will thrive for. This content might be your own or someone else’s. Always try to reshare it with a note attached to it to give the reader some context.
Be picky about who you follow on X. You should definitely follow people on X, But you should only follow accounts relevant to your niche or industry and those you plan to engage with. Follow accounts that you want to build a relationship with and start building it. You don’t always need to follow everyone who follows you.
X Marketing Strategies
There are several different marketing strategies to use when marketing a blog on X. Many of these strategies work for different types of blogs and niches, while others may not work as well.
- AIDA – AIDA stands for Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action. This is where you write your social media content using this formula. Create attention with the title, first sentence, or even the media you add. Continue with building interest and desire through the content. End with an action, whether it’s to follow you, comment, like, or something else.
- PAS—PAS stands for Problem, Agitate, and Solve. First, you want to present a problem or a pain point with your post. Then you want to agitate the reader to get them emotionally involved in the problem. Finally, you solve it with your Call to Action at the end.
- 90/10 – 90/10 is a content-sharing strategy in which 90% of your content is native, and 10% is non-native. Native content is when you publish text-based posts or upload media directly to X. Non-native content is external links. The more native content you post, the more the algorithm will give you more views and attention because you’re keeping people on X.
- A/B—A/B is a testing tool. In this method, you do a specific strategy for a set amount of time (strategy A) and then a different strategy for the same amount of time (strategy B). Then you compare the two and see which one to go with at the end—A or B?
- 3P – 3P is a strategy that I invented for blogging. It can definitely be used for blog marketing on X as well. The 3P stands for 3 phases. The first phase (year one) is all about creating consistent, high-quality content on X. The next phase (year 2) focuses on marketing and promoting while continuing to create great content. The last phase (year 3) focuses on earning a profit as you continue to create content and market your blog. It makes for a great three-year strategic plan.

The Don’ts of Blog Marketing on X
There are a few things that you should never do in terms of blog marketing on X, as they can cause your social media strategies to fail.
Don’t spam. You shouldn’t be joining X with the goal and intentions of purely posting links to your content and doing nothing else. 90% of your content should not have any links to your blog content. Use social media to build a reputation and niche authority and people will follow you to your blog.
Don’t X for X. Like for like, follow for follow, comment for comment, share to share—these are all examples of what not to do on X. Doing this can even get your account banned if you get caught. It’s fake, and you’re not getting anything real when you do it this way.
Don’t use engagement groups. Unless you can find an authentic niche-related engagement group, you’re better off not using them. Most engagements will be fake, and many of those you engage with will probably never visit again.
Don’t buy likes or followers. One way to get banned from X is to cheat, and purchasing fake likes and followers is cheating. Most of these services use bots. Many claim they don’t use bots and that they’re legit, but 99% of them are not legit and may get you banned from X. And these fake followers and likes will ultimately do nothing for your blog marketing on X.
Don’t buy an ad without a goal. You should always have a goal when purchasing an ad on X. Your goal may be to profit, gain followers, or even get subscribers. Just make sure you have a goal. Otherwise, you’re spending money blindly and will not understand whether it’s helpful or not.
Don’t copy other people. You need to post in your own personal voice and post unique content. You can get inspiration from others in your niche. You can fill in the gaps that they didn’t post about. But you should never be a copycat. You need to be unique and genuine.
