Some say most bloggers should be making around $0 to $5,000 a month, while some could be making $50,000 a month. If a blogger is making $50K a month, they’ve likely been around for a long time and have built a significant brand.

The best way to earn more money after you’ve just started a blog or just started a blog profit strategy is to grow your audience and content. The more you scale things, the more likely you will earn more money in the process.

But you also have to have revenue-earning capabilities on your blog. You can’t just start a blog and instantly earn money. It’s going to be like any business you make.

This also depends on how much work you’re willing to put into your blog.

It took more than four years to start earning money, and it wasn’t very much. But in the fifth year, the blog started paying for itself. And in my sixth year, I started putting blog profit in my pocket.

  2. Year 2: Focus on marketing and growing your audience. Get on social media, buy advertising if you can afford it, network, write guest posts, and grow your mailing list while still writing and publishing often.
  3. Year 3: Focus on making money. You have the content and proof to back yourself up. You should have a following by then and a great contact list. Now, it’s time to focus on blog profit.

And keep in mind that the more valuable and high-quality content you publish at scale, the easier it will be to earn more money with your blog.

FIRST – Don’t quit your day job just yet. What is your salary per year at your day job? Let’s pretend it’s $50,000. Once you’re making $100,000 a year with your blog, then quit your day job and focus entirely on your blog to increase your revenue even more.

If you quit your job before earning as much as you made with it, you might not be able to pay your bills and make money in time. Be smart about it.

There are many factors that you need to consider before trying to earn a blog profit. But once you get the factors down and get the hang of things, it becomes fairly simple to start earning and even increase your earnings.

 

Select a Profitable Blog Niche

I’ve spoken many times about how to find your blogging niche because it’s an important step in successful blogging.

It’s even more important for earning a blog profit. Not every niche will earn that much revenue. But lucky for you, it’s easy to find profitable blog niches.

The first step is selecting a passion. You have to be interested in the topic. It should be a topic that you know a lot about. You’ll be competing with bloggers who are experts on the topic. If you do not know of it, you’ll find yourself burning out fast.

The second step after deciding on your niche topic is to ensure that an audience exists for it. You want competition to be present because that means an audience is present, too. If there isn’t competition, chances are, there isn’t much of an audience, and that will be hard to make money with.

The final step of choosing a profitable niche is to see if profit can be made with it. The best way to do this is to research the competition. Are they making money? How are they making money? Can you also make money like they are? Try to listen in to your audience to see what their biggest needs are. How can you give them a solution and monetize it?

After you complete all three of these steps, you should be on your way to a profitable niche.

 

Domain and Hosting

The next step is naming your blog and getting a domain name and hosting service for it.

You want to make sure that you can get a domain name that matches your blog name. It’s important for a brand. However, not all domain names are available. An available new domain name is typically under $20 for a year. But if you try to buy a taken domain name that’s for sale, it might be $1,000 or more, and that doesn’t cover the yearly cost.

Sometimes, it’s best to go with your name as long as you want to be known for blogging about your niche.

My domain is ShawnGossman.com, which is my real name. I want to be known for blogging about blogging, so my name matches my brand.

Where do you get a domain name? I suggest you use DreamHost, which is the hosting service I’ve used for over 15 years. If you use my link, I will earn a commission, but it will not impact your price.

You’ll also need hosting if you plan to use the WordPress blog software, which is ideally what you should do.

At first, shared hosting is all you need. It’s usually under $20 a month. I’ll recommend DreamHost for that, too. As I said before, using my link will earn me a commission but not impact your price.

It’s important to note that while you’ll be able to use cheap shared hosting for a while, eventually, you’ll have to upgrade to something more powerful. As your blog grows, it will no longer function right on shared hosting. You’ll need to upgrade to a Private Server or a Dedicated Server. The price increases. I Pay $210 a month for mine.

So, earning a blog profit is an important part of blogging because, eventually, you’ll need to earn something to pay to keep your blog up and running as it grows.

 

Design and Optimize

Your next step is to download and install WordPress if you want full control.

That’s WordPress.org. It’s free, but you have to host it yourself. WordPress.com offers a free blog that they host, but you’re very limited on features, and you can’t monetize it unless you pay first. So, since you have to pay to earn, you might as well host it yourself and get access to all the features.

Most hosting services (like my recommendation of DreamHost) have an easy way of installing WordPress. You just click a few buttons, and you’re ready to go. Otherwise, installing it yourself is fairly easy, and you can always get free support from your hosting service to help guide you through it.

After you install WordPress, you need to add a decent theme. I suggest DIVI by Elegant Themes. I use that theme on every blog I make because I can easily customize it and use different colors and formatting to make it unique for each blog. If you use my link, I’ll earn a commission, but it will not impact your price.

Then, you need to add a few good plugins to help you on your journey of earning a blog profit. My recommendations are:

  • Yoast SEO – For all your search engine optimization needs
  • Jetpack – Various security and performance features to keep your blog up and running
  • Bloom – Adds an email opt-in feature to your blog to get more newsletter subscribers
  • WooCommerce – eCommerce platform for making money with your blog

Take a look around at your setting and fine-tune everything that you think needs to be adjusted.

After you take care of these things, you’ll be ready to start creating content and getting your blog launched.

 

Posting Calendar

A posting or content calendar is an organized list of posts that you will be writing and publishing on your blog.

The calendar keeps you on track and organized.

One of the most important strategies in blogging is consistency. You have to be consistent about posting content. This doesn’t mean you have to post a certain amount of posts at specific times. It means that whatever posting configuration you choose, you need to consistently post using that configuration.

As an example, I post every Wednesday at 10:00 AM CST on this blog. I’m consistent because I make sure to post at that time every Wednesday. If I later decide to post two days a week, I’ll need to be consistent about it.

Consistency matters for search engine optimization and to build up trust in when your audience will know when to expect new content.

It’s fine to experiment with different posting configurations, but once you find the one you like, stick with it to be consistent.

Now, back to your posting calendar!

It’s as simple as a spreadsheet. List your content ideas and the dates you wish to post them so that you have a content creation deadline. You can add other things to your spreadsheet, like keywords, social media scheduling, and whatever else you want to add.

My biggest advice in terms of content publishing is to stay ahead of the game. That will keep you from being overwhelmed and ensure consistency.

How do you stay ahead, though?

Create a bunch of content before you publish. Create 15 to 30 articles if you can. Edit them up and make them perfect. Make sure they’re of high quality and significant value. Then, start scheduling them to publish on your WordPress blog.

Doing that will put you way ahead of the game, and as long as you keep writing, you’ll stay ahead. But if you slack off writing for too long, you’ll get behind fast.

A posting calendar is important when creating content for blog profit, and once you make it a habit, you’ll be in for a successful blogging career.

It’s one of the best ways to reach your audience without worrying about AI stopping you. And it’s a direct line to potential paying customers, too.

If you pay attention to their buying behaviors, converting them into paying customers will be a lot easier. And this research never stops because the times and trends are always changing.

Learn how to research keywords for SEO purposes. Once you master keyword research, everything else is easy in terms of SEO. If you’re using WordPress, the free plugin Yoast SEO will allow you to audit each post to ensure your SEO factors have been met. But you should definitely keep researching SEO and aim to get better at it. SEO factors will be how you easily get listed on page 1 of search engines, but remember that your content also needs to be highly valuable to begin with.

Copywriting is the art of persuasion. If you can blog in a way that persuades readers to act the way you want them to act, then you’re a master copywriter. But many bloggers fail to become great storytellers, and that’s what copywriting is all about. Sometimes, you need to listen to a great story to be able to tell a great story.

Social media will be one of your most significant sources of traffic and readers. But you have to build a community of followers on the channels you participate in. It might take a while. Posting frequently, focusing on native content, and delivering value will help you build up your social following. If you’re not on social media, you’re missing out on a lot of traffic and potential money-making opportunities.

Sometimes, in order to earn blog profit, you have to spend money to get there. Advertising is a great way to promote your content. Basically, you need to deliver the kind of content that your audience is demanding. Every post you create should have a goal of being better than the last one. Each post should be packed with value.

If other bloggers want to become a guest contributor on your blog, you should consider allowing them to. Make sure their content meets your standards and styles. Their content needs to be of a high value. The more guest bloggers you get on your blog, the more content you will be able to consistently share with your audience. The best way to do that is to register your blog as a business if you can.

In the United States, I pay around $150 to register an LLC for my blog. I then get a federal tax ID number for it with the IRS. I might get business liability insurance pending the niche and how I plan to earn money. Then, I create a business strategy and plan for my blog.

When you treat it like a business, it becomes a business.

  • Overall Visits – How many people are visiting and reading your blog and its content?
  • Traffic Sources – Where your readers are finding your blog in order to visit it.
  • Page Visits – The pages on your blog that are getting the most visits.
