Start Blogging?
Have you considered starting your own blog this year? But do you ask yourself if it is worth it to even start your own blog from the get-go? Is it too late to start a blog? I wanted to create this article to focus on the reasons that you should consider and not consider when starting your own blog in 2022 and beyond. There are many reasons to start blogging today. But there are many reasons to not start blogging as well. So, I hope this article helps you with your decision making process for starting your own blog in 2022 and beyond.
Reasons For Starting Your Own Blog
There are many great reasons to start blogging in 2022 and beyond. Blogging is a way to define your authority and expertise in your niche market or your business market. If you own a business or a brand of sorts, you want to develop more reputation as an expert within that business world, right? Blogging is a great way to do that because you’re sharing expertise about your market with a related audience that you’re targeting.
PRO TIP: Business blogging also opens up the ability to become more personal with your consumers and allow them a chance to get to know you. In business blogging, it is better for the CEO or the founder/owner to be the one creating the blog posts or at least have them post every now and then.
Blogging is a good way to start making money online. Now don’t misunderstand what I am saying here. You’re not going to immediately start making money as soon as you start blogging. Some niche blogs don’t even make any money at all. However, if you choose the right topic to blog about and you’re passionate about that topic – and it’s marketable, you can easily monetize the blog after a while.
PRO TIP: Just don’t make a goal of getting rich quick and fail miserably for doing so. While it is still very possible for you to make a decent living from blogging, most of the people who are “rich” from blogging have been blogging for more than a decade. When they started blogging, there probably wasn’t a lot of competition – not the competitive market is often well oversaturated.
Blogging can be an easier way of having a website. With software like WordPress, running a website is a lot easier than it was 20-years ago. You no longer have to know programming languages and code. Installation of a blog is simple and all you need to do is start writing. And don’t think for a minute that people don’t read anymore. Over 40% of the internet is powered by a WordPress blog. I’d say there is a healthy number of internet consumers still actively reading blogs.
PRO TIP: If you do install WordPress, learn as much as you can about using the software. Focus on speed and improvement, security, plugins, and themes. Knowing these things from the start isn’t required but mastering them at some point will help make your blog better in the end.
Blogging is fun! If you’re a writer, blogging is perfect for you. I am not that much of a reader. When I do read, I skim read or read portions really quickly. When it comes to writing, I’d much rather write than read. In fact, I love writing. Blogging allows me to write often and become a better writer the more I do it. Blogging is fun but it also makes you smarter the more you do it.
PRO TIP: If you need help with blogging, go to other bloggers. You can always read blog like this one or another blog help tip blog. You can also check out online communities as well. Reasons Against Starting Your Own Blog
There are some misconceptions that might mean you may not want to start blogging. If you’re looking for results to be extremely fast, blogging may not be for you. It might take a few years before your blog starts to get noticed more within your niche market. It might take even a few more years after that before you start making any kind of money. But it will always take genuine content that is original and extremely resourceful.
PRO TIP: If you want to start working on content that grows popularity quicker and gives you a better chance of earning some kind of revenue, you need to own your content. This means the content should be yours and original. You should write in a manner as if you’re trying to teach yourself how to do something. People want content that helps them directly with their needs.
If you don’t like to write, you might not want to start blogging. Blogging requires writing. Sure, you could hire a ghost writer to write all of your content for you. However, it will be years before you get some sort of Return-on-Investment (ROI) for those articles you pay for. If you’re not a writer, blogging just might not be your game. There are plenty of other things you could be doing if writing isn’t your thing, either.
PRO TIP: If you don’t want to write, consider your other options. You could start social media pages that require way less writing than a blog post does. You could podcasting if you want to stay away from writing altogether. Maybe even consider starting a YouTube channel. There are many options to get online without having to have your own blog.
If you don’t plan on being consistent or following goals that lead to a larger objective, blogging may not be for you. If your starting your own blog, you need to be consistent about how often you post. You can post once a month, but you need to make sure you post once a month. You should plan for goals on your blog and the goals should be realistic.
PRO TIP: Most of this article assumes you are going to use a blog for business or a brand. If you want to make a personal blog that doesn’t have a market or profit objective, then go for it. You don’t need to do all this if you just want to write a personal blog about life and whatever. But if you want it more than that, you need to understand that you’ll have to compete with others.
Blogging is oversaturated. There are likely no niche markets where blogs don’t exist in. If you find a niche market where there is no blog, it might be because the market isn’t marketable. So, competition in most blog niches is likely going to be high. You’ll have to work hard to compete especially when first starting your own blog. If you think it is just install and become popular quick, you will get a sudden and rude awakening even quicker.
PRO TIP: Choose a blogging topic that you know a lot about. Your blogging topic or niche should be something you’re passionate about. Research the topic first to see if there is a market out there for it. Then start researching your competition to see what they’re really good at and what they’re not so good at. Don’t copy your competition but at least make your blog up to speed with them.
Starting your own blog can be a great thing or it can be a bad thing. You just need to weigh in the pros and the cons of doing it. Do you have the time commitment and energy to start a blog? Can you be patient about the results of what your blog accomplishes? Or will it all fall down if you can’t get what you want when you want it?
